Founded 15 years ago on the outskirts of Rome, Progetto Colors has developed from a grassroots initiative into an international programme now active in Mozambique. The project uses basketball as a catalyst for growth, resilience, and social integration among disadvantaged children—particularly girls, who often face the greatest barriers to education and participation in sport.
Colors goes beyond sport by offering children safe spaces to play, uniforms that foster a sense of belonging, transport from orphanages and underserved communities, and meals and hydration to sustain their participation. These elements provide not only the conditions to train but also the foundations for dignity, inclusion, and opportunity.
By integrating sport with education, life skills, and community support, Colors equips young people with confidence, resilience, and leadership. For many participants, the basketball court becomes a place where aspirations take shape and where sport serves as a pathway to empowerment and social mobility.
