Founded with the belief that sport can change lives, Sembeza Africa has evolved from a small volunteer-driven effort into a growing regional programme promoting education, inclusion, and resilience through play. Its flagship initiative — The Best Barefoot League in the World (TBBFL) — brings together children and youth from underserved communities to participate in football, basketball, athletics, netball, and traditional games, all played barefoot to remove barriers to access.
Sembeza Africa goes far beyond sport. Through its network of community hubs in Ntungamo, Entebbe, and Kabale, the organisation trains physical education teachers and local coaches, provides learning materials and sports equipment, and integrates environmental and livelihood activities — including tree planting, beekeeping, and poultry farming. These efforts create spaces where education, wellbeing, and opportunity converge.
By combining sport with education, life skills, environmental stewardship, and gender equality, Sembeza equips young people — particularly girls — with the confidence, leadership, and vision to transform their futures. For thousands of participants, the playing field becomes not only a place for teamwork and competition but also a platform for empowerment and community change.
Reaches over 10,000 girls and youth across Uganda through inclusive sport and education initiatives.
Provides access to safe, structured physical education and coaching in schools and community centres.
Promotes environmental and livelihood resilience through beekeeping, poultry rearing, and reforestation drives.
Builds leadership, confidence, and social skills among children from marginalised communities.
Fosters partnerships between schools, NGOs, and sports clubs to sustain local ownership and opportunity.

“In Ntungamo, girls who once stood on the sidelines now take the lead — barefoot, confident, and determined. For many, the field is more than a place to play; it’s where they discover their voice, their strength, and their future.”
